The “Alexandrie” scented candle instantly transports you to the banks of the Nile, in a complex green blend of lemon, blackcurrant and mint tea, spiced up with ginger and sweetened with vanilla. The candle is made of plant-based wax and is nested in a small marble holder.

The “Alexandrie” scented candle combines fresh lemon with the inimitable, divine scent of mint tea. The fragrant duo is nuanced with the green, fruity, mysteriously complex scent of blackcurrant, the spiciness of ginger and the body of vanilla.

According to legend, the city of Alexandria was born from a dream Alexander the Great had, in which Homer visited him to point out the place where he would build his ideal city, between the Mediterranean Sea and Lake Mareotis, in the middle of the Nile Delta. The city and its seaport were built in 331 BC, following a grid plan carefully designed by the King of Macedonia, conqueror and new Pharaoh of Egypt. Its lighthouse, symbol of the city, is evoked in this perfume by the vibrant, golden light of the lemon. It was praised as one of the Seven Wonders of the World by the greatest poets, including Victor Hugo. Its outstanding library, the most extensive in the ancient world, attracted the most erudite scholars of its time. Here, it is embodied by the woody scent of oak moss.

Gardens occupied a large part of the original city and are still a regal feature of the modern metropolis, like the fabulous Montazah gardens surrounding the palace built in the 1930s and overlooking the city: in “Alexandrie”, they are represented by ideally green, oriental notes, spiced with ginger and velvety blackcurrant leaves. Greek geographer Strabo recalled that Alexandria was the “counter of the world”: a cultural melting pot, bustling with activity, attracting a cosmopolitan population from all around the Mediterranean. To evoke this great, utopian blend of cultures, what better symbol than mint tea, a drink loved by all and fully embraced by everyone in North Africa, here combined with vanilla’s precious hedonism.

“If a man make a pilgrimage round Alexandria in the morning, God will make for him a golden crown, set with pearls, perfumed with musk and camphor, and shining from the East to the West.”

Topographer and historian Ibn Dukmak (15th century), quoted by E.M. Forster in “Alexandria: A History and a Guide," 1922.
